Frequently Asked Questions?
Do pedestrian barriers need additional fence feet?
Unlike temporary fencing which relies on additional fence feet to keep them upright, pedestrian barriers come in either fixed or loose-leg varieties.
This means that if you purchase loose leg barriers, you will need fence feet or PedBlok™ systems to enable them to stand.
If you are keen not to buy any further accessories, however, choose a fixed leg barrier, which stands on two inverted ‘V’ shaped legs per panel.

Are Chapter 8 traffic barriers sturdy enough for use on roads?
Manufactured from High-density polyethylene (HDPE), Chapter 8 traffic barriers are made from a form of blow-moulded plastic.
While this can seem flimsy, HDPE is extremely sturdy, weatherproof, and is actually beneficial for use on UK roadways versus metal barriers.
If a car were to collide with a metal barrier, the chances of damage to vehicles would be much higher. As such, HDPE barriers with rounded edges are much safer for road users and are the preferred option.
Likewise, as larger, solid barriers, the repeating red and white pattern is easier to spot when drivers are cruising past – unlike slender pedestrian barriers.

Can you stack pedestrian barriers for storage?
Like temporary fencing panels, it is possible to stack pedestrian barriers for easier transportation and storage.
This is easier with loose-leg pedestrian barriers – as they do not have fixed legs that can become entangled together with other barriers.
However, it is perfectly possible to stack fixed-leg barriers for more efficient movement, just try to make sure the legs are staggered or offset to reduce entanglement or accidental damage.

Do I need pedestrian barriers?
Widely used by a range of industries and environments, pedestrian barriers are incredibly versatile.
As such, many people who may not initially consider them could benefit from having a small number of crowd-safety barriers ready for use on-site.
Possible uses include:
- Keeping people away from hazards – which can include everything from wet paint to construction work
- Organising queues and waiting areas
- Stopping crowds from moving or pushing forwards
- Separating visitors from staff at events
